A design philosophy is something every designer formulates to help others understand what they bring to the table. While I am still actively working on coming up with just the right creative and catchy phrase to reflect my own design philosophy, I know that I am art, and I am psychology, and for me, art, sustainability, and mindfulness are key factors in how I find purpose in creating. I believe in bold ideas and earthly vibes.

ART

◊ Art is a significant piece of who I am that drives my passion to create. I seek to create a place that promotes the users to get curious. Thus, finding themselves reflecting on what the design, or specific piece of art within, means to them. I want the users to form a perspective and opinion, to question. I view the use of art in design as contribution to originality and uniqueness, to help open the minds of the people. While art is an amazing tool that helps create interaction with psychology, it is also the perfect tool to help create the right color palette and/or ideal focal point in a design.

SUSTAINABILITY

◊ The importance of sustainability in design comes into play with almost every single decision an interior designer makes, from creating the design to selecting textile needed. “The environmental and social impacts of a product are locked in at the design phase” (Acroglu, 2020), which is why I believe designers should carefully think about their design decisions and how each one will contribute to the environment and society. It is important designers support local, eco-friendly companies and to create places that guide users into sustainable options. Designers are actively contributing to the economic growth of communities, which is why we must use our strong influence to support that sustainability is a significant factor in the future of design.

MINDFULNESS

◊ Practicing mindfulness is meant to promote growth, to help an individual become presently aware of their surroundings. “Contemplative practices, such as mindfulness, have gained popularity across a variety of secular contexts by mitigating the distractions of everyday life, reducing negative reactivity, and cultivating a more thoughtful awareness of one's present experience. In addition, these practices may foster a heightened sense of empathy, feelings of interconnectedness, and a reduction in assumptions” (Cotter, 2019). I believe mindfulness is essential for designers to create and connect. Mindfulness brings about sense of understanding and being able to see outside and all around the box, rather than being stuck within.

CONCLUSION

◊ Design is about perspective. Design is meant to have meaning behind it. It is important that, as creators, we develop and understand our own purpose within the field. Who we are is reflected in our designs, and the thought we give to making sure all users from all walks of life can enjoy our designs speaks volumes on the empathy and care we have for our environment and society. We must find our own unique and creative voice, and use it.

Clear massage about what do you think your design should be. I like the way you talk about the relationship between art and design, base on your post, I think you have a really good knowledge about you goal for design and what you looking for while you designing.
